In Canada, the math is easy: winter equals hockey. Transporting your gear to the game is one thing, preparing it for a move is another! We’ve put together a few tips so you can easily clear the puck out of your zone, so to speak.
Start by thoroughly cleaning all your hockey equipment. Wipe down hard surfaces with a mild detergent or hockey-specific equipment cleaner. Use a disinfectant spray or wipe to kill any bacteria or odor-causing agents. Ensure that all items are completely dry before packing to prevent mold or mildew growth.
Lay out all your equipment and sort it into categories such as protective gear (shoulder pads, elbow pads, shin guards, etc.), skates, helmet, gloves, and accessories (sticks, pucks, etc.). This will help you stay organized and ensure that everything is accounted for during the move.
Take this opportunity to assess the condition of your equipment. If any items are worn out, damaged, or no longer suitable for use, consider replacing them before the move.
Pack each item separately to prevent them from rubbing against each other during transit; this includes your sticks. Place smaller items like gloves or accessories in a bag or smaller box. For helmets and shoulder pads, consider using a dedicated sports equipment bag or a duffel bag.
Use blade covers or carefully wrap the blade of your skates with cloth or bubble wrap to protect them and prevent accidental injury.
To keep your equipment fresh during the move, consider using odor-control methods. You can place deodorizing packs, dryer sheets, or activated charcoal pouches in your equipment bags or boxes.
Line your equipment bag or box with a plastic liner or garbage bag to protect it from any potential moisture during transportation. Use additional padding, such as towels or bubble wrap, to fill empty spaces and provide extra level of protection for your gear.
After the move, unpack your equipment as soon as possible and allow it to air out to prevent any lingering odors or moisture buildup. Questions? Our capable Relocation Consultants are ready to coach you.
